What does it mean to you? Is it the price? The size? The quality? The location? All, or some, of the above? Television seems to simplify the definition with all the "Luxury" home shows aired. But it's not an easy definition. It means something different to every person. I'd like to educate you about Luxury Homes. I have a wealth of experience with luxury homes and am also a certified luxury home marketing expert. Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines Luxury as: "an indulgence in something that provides pleasure, satisfaction, or ease". That's a fairly generic definition, but it's certainly accurate. Rocket Homes defines Luxury homes as ones valued in the top 10% of a local market. The average home price in San Diego is currently $,1,423,000, so a home sale, at this price point, would probably not fall into the “Luxury” category here. However, the average home price in Cape Coral, FL, for example, is $348,000, so $1M should get you a pretty "luxurious" home. But it's not always just about the price. Location certainly plays a role (although that usually affects the price). Having a penthouse condo overlooking the ocean or a rural home on acreage can all be considered a luxury, as they provide pleasure and satisfaction, as Webster's Dictionary states. What about size? Certainly, the size of the home does matter. The greater the square footage, the more luxurious a home can be considered. Take, for example, a 1400 sq ft home on the ocean. It may be considered luxurious because of the location, but an 8,000 sq ft home on the ocean would trump the smaller one in the luxury category. Then, there is the matter of quality or design. Quality is just as important as quantity in the luxury world. If a property doesn't have items like marble, high-end appliances, a pool with spa, tennis courts, and boat docks, the list can be endless; then a home may not be as luxurious as one with these items. Whatever your definition of a luxury home is, you need to know that your realtor is knowledgeable in every aspect of luxury homes. You want to know that you are in good hands with your investment, as it is significant.
